Cyber made simple

With decades of experience in securing critical infrastructure, private sector and government systems, we bring military pragmatism, commercial reality and intellectual rigour to a world where cookie-cutter solutions just don’t work

Australian businesses face an increasingly sophisticated and capable adversary targeting their reputation, data and money.

In the complex field of cyber, we work with leaders at every level to understand, and manage, their information security risks and plan for, and respond to, cyber incidents.

We’re veterans and we don’t believe in leaving people behind - so we also find ways to make enterprise-grade expertise accessible to small business.

Informed Investment

We love security standards and believe they play a crucial role in an effective cyber security posture but any strategy that relies purely on blind compliance with external standards is likely to be overly expensive or, worse still, overlook risks unique to your organisation or industry.

At Hint Cyber, we first work to understand your business objectives and the critical processes, information and systems that underpin them.  Then, we look at the ways in which life, the universe and malicious actors can conspire to get in the way before developing a comprehensive action plan to address the most pressing risks first.

Finally, we develop a risk-appropriate assurance regime to give you peace of mind that you’re investing your time, effort and money in the right places to keep your business secure online.

Decisive Response

Sure, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure but a cyber-mature organisation plans ahead for when life doesn’t pan out the way we hoped.  We believe that no organisation ever rises to the occasion of a cyber security incident – we only ever sink to the level of our preparation for it.  Through a combination of training and exercises targeting all levels of management we help organisations and teams prepare to prevail in a cyber incident.

We’re also just a phonecall away in the event of a cyber incident to assist with working through the myriad issues that will emerge in the midst of a cyber incident.

From dealing with regulators, the media and customers to containing, and then eradicating, the threat we can be there to guide you at every step of the way and get your business back up and running as effectively as possible.  We work with every level of management from the boardroom to the server room.

Continuous Improvement

No matter how good you think your security posture is, the reality is that the adversary always gets the final vote.  No organisation can ever stand still – security is an ongoing journey and never a destination.

We work with you to continually review performance against the plan and identify the gaps – before the bad guys do.

We also recognise that cyber incidents can reveal a lot more than the cracks in your defences.  A major incident can be a stressful experience and we’re highly experienced in creating a safe, no-blame, environment in which the team can review and unpack their actions and use the experience to learn valuable lessons for the future.

How we deliver value

Cyber Resilience

Professional services and consulting

We are the pilgrims, master; we shall go always a little further

James Elroy Flecker

Cyber resilience is the ability of an organisation to support business objectives in adverse conditions through preparation for, response to and recovery from cyber incidents.

We help cyber security leaders at every level to manage risk, sense the need for change before the situation demands it and build new capability effectively.

Cyber Crucible

Crisis leadership training and simulations

No plan of operations survives with certainty beyond the first encounter with the enemy

Helmuth von Moltke

A high-profile cyber incident isn’t the best time or place to be learning how to manage a major incident or crisis.

Using realistic simulations, we teach leaders at every level to think clearly under pressure, communicate clearly amidst the confusion and restore normal operations as effectively as possible.

Cyber Circle

Mastermind groups for small/medium enterprise

If you’re the smartest person in the room, find a better room

Unknown

The challenge faced by small and medium enterprises is that they often don’t have the resources to fund a dedicated cyber security executive and so the responsibility falls to the “Accidental Chief Information Security Officer”.

Cyber Circles brings together carefully curated mastermind groups to collaborate in keeping their organisations secure.

Meet the Hint Cyber founders

  • Adam O'Donnell

Adam O’Donnell has delivered cyber security programs for federal, state and local government as well as the private sector where he worked extensively with critical infrastructure providers. He led the delivery of the Bureau of Meteorology’s $44m security program in response to a cyber breach and led an assessment of the level of compromise of Victorian Government systems by state-based adversaries. In the private sector, he was the Head of Cyber Security for an energy distribution company and Chief Operating Officer for a security appliance manufacturer.

Prior to entering the world of cyber security, Adam served with distinction in both British and Australian Special Forces on multiple combat deployments and training exercises around the world where he learnt how to think effectively under pressure, give clear and unambiguous direction and coordinate operations in highly volatile environments. He now brings that expertise to the world of cyber security where the threat and terrain may be different, but the skillset and mindset needed to prevail are identical.
